After 12 years of marriage, Vanessa Hayden Trump, wife of Donald Trump Jr., filed for divorce on Thursday afternoon.
After meeting in 2003, the pair married in 2005 at the family’s club in Palm Beach, Florida, and now have five children.
In a joint statement, the couple said: “After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways”, but state that “we will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”
Since Vanessa Trump, former model and the president’s daughter-in-law, filed for an uncontested divorce, it’s unlikely she’ll be fighting for custody over their children or for assets, since the couple most likely have a prenuptial agreement.
However, despite suggesting that they’ll remain friendly, Vanessa Trump chose to hire an attorney specialising in criminal law, instead of a family law specialist, to handle the divorce.
Does this mean she expects the divorce to be messy?
We can only wait and see.
